Glocandy is pitching a baby monitor that tracks sleep and breathing-related movement without filming the crib. The privacy idea is compelling, but crowdfunding buyers should examine the details carefully.

A monitor without a camera

Glocandy announced its contactless smart baby monitor in July 2026. Instead of a camera or wearable sensor, the device uses 60GHz millimetre-wave radar to detect very small movements. The company says its system can monitor sleep patterns and breathing-related motion while processing data locally.

That combination addresses two common concerns. Some parents do not want an internet-connected camera in the nursery, while others dislike attaching electronics to a baby’s clothing or body. A contactless, camera-free sensor promises monitoring without either compromise.

Why radar is showing up in the nursery

Short-range radar can sense subtle motion in low light and does not need a recognisable video image. In principle, that makes it a natural fit for sleep environments. It can also reduce the amount of sensitive visual data a device collects.

Privacy, however, is more than the absence of a camera. Parents should still ask what information the companion app collects, whether an account is required, how long data is retained, how software updates are delivered and whether any analytics leave the home.

Questions to ask before backing it

  • Validation: Has performance been tested independently and in realistic nursery conditions?
  • Positioning: What crib distance and room layout does the sensor require?
  • False alerts: How does it handle a fan, parent movement, pets or two children nearby?
  • Connectivity: Which functions continue if Wi-Fi or the cloud service is unavailable?
  • Delivery risk: Crowdfunding timelines and final specifications can change.

The SIMBABY take

Camera-free monitoring is one of the more interesting directions in nursery technology because it responds to a real privacy concern. Still, this product was introduced through crowdfunding, and the performance statements come from the company. Treat it as promising technology to watch—not a substitute for safe-sleep practices, attentive caregiving or a medical device.
